Bacon Makes Everything Better,Even Chocolate?
![]() |
Here are three little words that might give the staunchest snacker pause: Chocolate-covered bacon.
It sounds so wrong. But it tastes just right, says Joseph Marini III, a fourth-generation candy maker who is selling the bacon bonbons at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk seaside amusement park.
“It’s not just for breakfast any more,” he says with a grin.
And this isn’t just a wacky West Coast thing.
This year, Famous Dave’s at the Minnesota State Fair is rolling out Pig Lickers — dark chocolate-covered bacon pieces sprinkled with sea salt.
“It’s just like the most bizarre combination,” says fair spokeswoman Brienna Schuette. “I actually really liked it. It was a good combination of sweet and salty.”
“There’s a whole trend toward chefs pushing the boundaries,” says Page. “Chefs are trying to be more playful and incorporate new kinds of whimsy.”
“One guy came up with, ‘Who doesn’t love bacon? Who doesn’t love chocolate? Let’s marry them together.’”
Wow. No wonder we are becoming a progressivly morbidly obese country more and more every day!

I don’t think I’d want to be in that line to taste test…sounds worst than chocolate covered coffee beans, coffee beans don’t even taste good by themselves!

My wife was telling me just last weekend about an upscale store in New York that sells dark chocolate with bits of bacon in it. I like chocolate and I like bacon, and I think I’d prefer to keep them separated.

I suggest we marry custard and caviar. And darn it if someone copyrighted that combination just yesterday!!!

Ummmm…gross!! Is there no end to the fattening, bad-for-you foods we can come up with in this country? I mean, are we just looking for ways to kill ourselves quicker????

In China, they use dog meat to make bacon (however possible is that, I’m totally unsure).
Covering it with chocolate should be good enough to cover its intense flavor while channeling some sweetness + lard juice out of it (if it’s pork).
In my experience, I’ve done it with Lychee.
Taste it – It’s a different combination that is weird but taste just right.
